Jason Locke has served as Minister of Music at Islington United Church (Toronto) since May 2017. A versatile musician—organist, pianist, song enlivener, choral conductor, and composer—Jason leads a vibrant and growing music program where congregants are invited to share their musical gifts in service of the wider church community.
Jason’s experience spans multiple denominations and church settings, enriching his musical approach with stylistic breadth and flexibility. He holds a Bachelor of Religious Studies from Tyndale University College (2002), a Master of Sacred Music in Composition from Emmanuel College, University of Toronto (2012), a Colleague diploma from the Royal Canadian College of Organists (2018), and a Master of Music Performance in Choral Conducting at Western University (2025).
As a composer, Jason creates choral works that balance beauty and accessibility. His writing emphasizes memorable melodies, engaging voicings, and expressive accompaniment. Many of his anthems are orchestrated and can be requested via the contact form on this site.
When not composing, conducting, or planning worship, Jason enjoys exploring Toronto with his partner, Jihwan, and their Lab-Husky mix, Toby.
